They transitioned away from simple birthday parties and weddings and saw use in corporate events and premieres. It was so easy to add a touch of color and branding to a venue — simply link together a couple of hundred balloons and you were set. What makes a garland really fantastic is that you can create them in the comfort of your own home. You simply inflate the balloons, tape them together, and hang them to the wall. You can use Command strips or hooks to secure the garland to a wall with ease.
Some people will use glue to attach the balloons or string them all together. On designdazzle. They state that for an eight-foot by two-foot wide garland, they used sixteen inch balloons and fifty 3-inch balloons. If you want to use three hundred balloons, then go right ahead. You might need to build a huge arch, which you can do with ease.
While you can of course purchase some extremely luxurious balloons, you can make do with the cheapest of packs. The entire arch might only cost you a few dollars. You can always add them on to the bottom of the balloon arch at the end. Just be sure to wait to cut your balloon decorating tape!
Put command hooks or nails on the wall where you want your balloon garland to hang. I recommend actually holding your balloon arch up before attaching the command strips! You may be surprised at how long it ends up being or how low it hangs with how thick your balloons are. Attach your balloon garland to the wall!
I do this by using command strips as I shared above. For the top one, put one the holes of the balloon strip through the hook of your command strip. This will depend on how thick your balloon arch is and how many balloons you have.
With the white and blue one I simply removed a few balloons from where I wanted to attach it to the wall to make it work. My best tip for this is to put one glue dot near the knot. Next, put another glue dot on the balloon you just attached and connect it to another balloon.
If you're having trouble attaching the balloon arch by using the strip, attach some bakers twine or fishing line or something similar to the end of the strip in a loop and attach the loop to the hook. When attaching balloons using the glue dots, be sure to place it correctly the first time.
I've popped numerous balloons by trying to remove them and put them in a different spot! It's best to just leave them where they are. If you plan on hanging it outside, wait to put it out until the day of the party. A balloon garland lasts about 1 week. I typically keep mine for a few days after the party and then post it on our neighborhood app to see if anyone else could use it for a party of their own!
Typically even after a week it still looks good with just a few balloons beginning to deflate.! Honestly most of the time when I make these I post them on our neighborhood app to see if anyone else could use them so others are able to use them.
This will depend on how big it is and if you use an electric balloon inflator or not. Typically the ones I make with around balloons takes me about an hour to an hour and a half to make. Could I attach the numbers to the windows out back. They go up about 18 feet. Do you need to double the balloons for numbers instead of just an arch? I probably would! It depends a little bit on how big your balloons are and how big you want the numbers to be. How do you hang balloon garland outside? Still command hooks? We did command hooks on one side and wrapped it around our gutters on the other side.

Thank you! I love this tutorial! May I ask how far in advance you think you can make a balloon garland? One or two days before or do you have to do the day of the event? Also — if using outside in cold weather, does that make a difference? Do you need to inflate the balloons more in that case? I usually make mine the day before but most are fine for at least 2 days! If you think your PTO will make a balloon arch again, make a note of how long it took to inflate the balloons to help with planning the next time.
There are lots of options. You can buy a balloon arch kit or make an arch with supplies purchased at a hardware store or party supply store, depending on your budget and your comfort level with diy projects. Balloon arch kits: Kits for making balloon arches are readily available online and at party supply stores. Before you buy, look for online reviews to see how easy or difficult the products are to use.
Wood two-by-fours made into an X shape, weighed down with sandbags or paint cans filled with sand. She uses sand weights to hold the base in place. Some balloon arches have columns that are several feet tall to support the arch. Others have short connectors close to the base that can hold the ends of an arch.
The arch shape can be created using flexible PVC pipe as in the photos below or even bendable tent poles. Sewing fishing line through the knots in inflated balloons and fastening them to an arch with zip ties or circular clips.
Making balloon pairs by wrapping the tied ends together, then wrapping two balloon pairs around each other on the arch. Take two balloons that have been inflated and had the ends tied off. Tie those balloons together by the tails by making a double-knot. If have a hard time making the double-knot, you can tie two balloons together with string instead. Take two balloon pairs and twist them together to make a clover shape.
Alternatively, you can tie the balloons together in a cross shape with some string or use plastic balloon arch clips that hold four balloons in place. If you use balloon arch clips, check that the diameter of the clips is large enough to slide over the arch structure. Ask a few other people to help you put the pieces of the arch together. If you inflated balloons at home ahead of time, it may take several cars or multiple trips to move them all to school.
